The last place I trust for accurate tech information is AutoZone. Mine knows I am retired and keeps trying to hire me because their staff only knows what the computer tells them. That would only happen if your battery or the winch's connection to the battery wasn't up to the load the winch is pulling, Plus you were running the engine so the alternator could help carry some of the load from the winch right? A winch under a heavy load can easily pull in excess of amps but a good heavy duty battery would have no problem with that in most winching situations.

There was no info in the system so I kept showing him what I needed since I brought the old part with me. After some time going back and forth and the sales man kept wanting to check the computer. An old guy sitting in the back heard and came out to the counter. Within 1 minute he already understood what I was looking for and handed me a pulley. It worked spot on. Since she runs the gas almost empty everytime it pops up. It goes away when filled up. I thought it was strange too. But there is a check engine light that is separate. The alternator may show a good charge but the current is not making it to the battery. I have a 97 bonneville and I have to service the terminals frequently.
I would have put a little gas in this thing but am unfamiliar with the area. Nothing but swamp for miles and miles around the dealer.

Earl Filter. For a low price, I wouldn't balk at a k mile Bonneville. My family owned an '88 from new was running strong at k with less than stellar OCI; never had a valve cover off, and trans was original.
We had a '91, and now a ' They are tough as nails. Just be glad the alternator is up top, because you'll be changing those out! Get a lifetime reman from a parts store, and be prepared to change it once a year or so, in my experience. Other than that, we've had very few problems in owning 3 of them, 2 of them well past k. The '98 is only at 80k, but we're getting there quickly. Also, that will get darn good economy for a torquey V6, especially on the freeway.
